英國GCSE和IGCSE課程的分別在哪?

GCSE(General Certificate of Secondary Education, 中等教育普通證書)是針對14至16歲的英國本地學生而設的證書課程,資格被全球多數大學及僱主承認。而IGCSE(International General Certificate of Secondary Education, 國際中學教育普通證書)則是為了國際學生設立的同等程度考試,作為升讀A-Level國際預科課程前的基礎課程,與香港舊學制時的會考相類似,而完成GCSE就相等於中五程度。

IGCSE: 專為海外學生而設

OCR

1. Reading All texts in the examination are unseen, that is, learners will not have studied the examination texts during the course.

2. The unseen texts will be selected from a range of genres, including prose fiction, literary non-fiction and other non-fiction such as journalism, biography and travel writing.

3. High-quality texts will be drawn from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The 19th century text will always be non-fiction.

4. Drama and poetry are not included in the OCR GCSE (9–1) in English Language qualification.

Writing OCR’s GCSE (9–1) in English Language is designed to enable learners to develop expertise in their writing.

5. Learners are encouraged to develop their ability to adapt their writing for a range of different purposes and contexts.

6. The accuracy of grammar, punctuation and spelling is important, as is the ability to use Standard English when appropriate.

7. Learners write creatively and imaginatively, using a wide vocabulary with a clear awareness of audience.

8. Spoken Language Learners will have the opportunity to prepare spoken presentations, planning effectively for different audiences and purposes.

9. They will listen and respond to others and express themselves using spoken Standard English when appropriate.

Overview of content

1. Study a Shakespeare play and a post-1914 British play or novel.

 

2. Develop skills to analyse how the language, form, structure and context of texts can create meanings and effects.

 

3. Develop skills to maintain a critical style and informed personal response.

OCR

1. It will introduce and extend learners’ insight into and experience of a diverse range of substantial literature, studying whole texts in the major genres, stimulating their curiosity, encouraging them to engage with literature in their everyday lives.

 

2. Learners will study texts which include one Shakespeare play, a wide selection of poetry since 1789, one 19th century novel and fiction or drama from the British Isles from 1914 onwards.

 

3. These are selected by the centre from the OCR set text list.

There is a choice of three poetry clusters for study from the free OCR Poetry Anthology: Love and Relationships, Conflict, and Youth and Age.

 

4. OCR’s GCSE (9–1) in English Literature is designed to develop knowledge and skills in reading, writing and critical thinking.

Learners will develop their expertise in reading literature critically and evaluatively, making connections across their reading, and articulating informed, independent interpretations of texts, both studied and unseen.
